Care and Maintenance for Wicker and Rattan Furniture to Make Them Last

Your beautiful Lane Venture wicker and rattan furniture can last decades with proper care, but maintenance is important to keep it bright and safe. The following care guidelines will extend the life of your wicker and give you many years of carefree use.

Clean the Wicker

Wipe away any spills using a clean cloth slightly dampened with Murphy’s Oil Soap and water. Stores like Wicker Paradise also sell a range of cleaning and conditioning products worth checking out. Clean rattan wicker outdoors with light detergent and a spray house and dry it carefully before use. Use caution while cleaning wicker as the water can remove the finish. Never spray water on paper fiber wicker.

Remove Dust

Wicker furniture is prone to collecting dust in the crevices of the material. You can safely remove surface dust with a soft bristle brush attachment on a vacuum. For stubborn hair and dirt in crevices, use a clean, dry paintbrush or toothbrush.

Control Humidity

Low humidity can cause wicker to become brittle whereas high humidity can cause mildew and mold growth. If the humidity in your home is too high, add a dehumidifier to the room.

Protect Cushions

Padded cushions can extend the life of the seats of your furniture, especially if you have a seat more than 14 inches in diameter. Wash cushions seasonally according to manufacturer recommendations; this usually involves removing the cushion liner to wash or spot cleaning. Replacement patio cushions are recommended every few years to maintain the integrity of the cushion and protect the seat of your furniture.
